2009 Oscars....already?

Yes, well one blog I visit has posted preliminary Oscar nomination predictions for the next Oscars. Note that these are very preliminary. Last year, he thought "Che" and "Revolutionary Road" would be serious contenders, so these should be taken with caution. There were also some movies I haven't even heard of, so again: a grain of salt.

That being said, it's an interesting read. Make sure to click on the link at the end of the article about charts. Here is Kris Tapley's opinion of the next Oscars on In Contention. Have fun!

Oscars!!!

So, I have to say I loved a lot of last night's Oscars. Hugh Jackman, I thought, was hilarious and talented last night, especially in the opening number. It was great!

Overall, I was ECSTATIC with the results. 8 WINS FOR SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!!! KATE WINSLET = BEST ACTRESS!!! Those were really the ones that I was pulling for. I certainly expected Sean Penn to win and I thought he was phenomenal in "Milk", but I was pulling for Richard Jenkins. Penelope Cruz was also a great choice for Suporting Actress and definitely expected.

Some might say this award season was boring. I mean, I predicted a lot of the wins last night, so maybe it was a little boring and predictable. The one semi-upset was "Departures" from Japan winning Best Foreign Language Film over Isreal's "Waltz with Bashir". I was a little disappointed about this, but seeing as I have only seen "Bashir" in that category, I can't complain too much. Plus, in the days before the Oscars, many bloggers were predicting that the more Oscar-friendly "Departures" would win.

YAY FOR SLUMDOG!

My New Discovery: Asher Roth

So, I know I'm late to this boat, but I have just discovered Asher Roth, a new rapper who is set to release his debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. He is a white, Jewish rapper from Pennsylvania, but don't let that color your opinions of him. Also, let's try to avoid Eminem comparisons. He made waves last summer when he released his Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama and Cannon, The Greenhouse Effect, which consists of Roth rapping over other beats. More recently, his debut single, "I Love College", has become very popular. It is already in the top ten Hip-Hop/Rap songs on iTunes. The single is fun, funny, and clever. It's kind of like chill rap. If that's not your cup of tea, still check it out, but also check out his mixtape because that's where he really demonstrates his flow and lyricism. He was also named one of XXL magazine's top freshman of 2009.

New Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Poster!

Finally, some posters for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! I (and I'm sure you) have been waiting for these posters for a long time. Since the movie was pushed back to July 17, 2009 they came even later than I had been hoping. The posters are really cool. Dumbledore and Harry each have their own posters of them looking off the poster at something probably ominous. There is also a third poster of Harry with Dumbledore reflected in his glasses. They're all definitely worth checking out even if you're not a particular Potter fan. Here they are (Thanks to The Leaky Cauldron):

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!!!

So I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have work.

So anyways, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE definitely seems poised to win Best Picture doesn't it, and I am thrilled. It was, in my opinion, the best movie of the year and it is definitely the best movie of the Best Pic nominees.

Just in case you didn't know, Slumdog won Best Ensemble at the Screen Actor's Guild, it won Best Picture at the Producer's Guild Awards, Boyle won Best Director at the Director's Guild Awards, and Beaufoy won Best Screenplay at the Screenwriter's Guild Awards.

Slumdog, for the win!!!
