That's right! The 2009 Alex Awards are done and ready for you to vote. This year, we changed it up: we're going green!! All voting is online! Exciting, no? So anyways, I know you're excited to get to voting, but a few tidbits first.

Just fyi, all songs/singles released (or popularized) between May 1 2008 and April 30 2009 were eligible for The Alex Awards 2009 (5th annual). All nominations were my opinions, so if you don't like them, oh well.

The artist with the most nominations this year is Kanye West with 12, followed by Lady GaGa with 10. Keri Hilson and Lil' Wayne each earned 9 nominations. Anyways, have fun voting!!

GLEE!

So, I meant to blog earlier about this wonderful show (GLEE), but I have been lazy. Anyways, "Glee" is about a teacher (Matthew Morrison) who is trying to revive the Glee club at his school, despite multiple forces working against him, including the cheerleading coach and the principal. His group of somewhat loser kids are going to train on their way to winning Nationals. The teacher also has help from another teacher who clearly has a crush on him (Jayma Mays from "Heroes" and "Pushing Daisies").

Anyways, FOX premiered the first episode after part 1 of the American Idol season finale. It was AMAZING! It was funny, clever, and musically great. Unfortunately, it won't be back until the fall, but in the meantime, you all should check out the pilot episode, which is currently FREE on iTunes! The show is seriously worth a look! Plus, two songs from the show are available for download on iTunes ("Rehab" and "Don't Stop Believing"), and they too are also amazing. Check it out!

Classic line: "I'm Beyonce. I AIN'T no Kelly Rowland!"

Here is a trailer for it:

Two Movie Trailers That Have Promise: "Precious" and "Nine"

So I saw two movie trailers in the past two days that have me extremely excited for the movies. This isn't always a good thing, but I think these two movies are going to be amazing! Plus, they will both fare well at the Oscars.

First up: Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire. This movie (which used to be called Push) has had buzz surrounding it since it debuted at Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize for Best Drama. Star Mo'Nique won the Special Jury Prize for Best Supporting Actress. The film also stars Gabourey Sidibe, Paula Patton, Lenny Kravitz, Mariah Carey, and Sherri Shepherd. Watch the trailer. Trust me!

Next: Nine. Adapted from the Broadway musical of the same name, this film promises to have huge costumes, songs, sets and performances. It's going to be fun and dramatic. It's Oscar bait and I will probably love it. As an FYI, it stars Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, Peneope Cruz, Judi Dench, Fergie, Kate Hudson, and Sophia Loren. Basically, it's going to be amazing. Watch!

That's last year's picture by the way.

RIP Danity Kane

So, as I'm you all know, Danity Kane is officially over. In September, Making the Band 4 showed Diddy kicking Aubrey and D. Woods out of the group. Then, when the show came back in March, we saw that Diddy invited all 5 of the girls to come back, but that only Dawn and Aundrea showed up. After they tried to get Shannon back and waited for a long time, Diddy finally decided to let 4 of the girls out of their contracts (Aubrey, D. Woods, Shannon and Aundrea) and to keep Dawn on Bad Boy as a solo artist.

Then, last week, the show had a live finale where four of the members of DK (all except Aundrea) came on and confirmed that they are officially over and that they will not be reuniting any time soon. It was pretty obvious that they didn't get along, especially Dawn and D.Woods/Aubrey. They're all working on their own stuff now, which is a little sad, but I guess we all have to move on.

This week, MTV aired "The Rise and Fall of Danity Kane", which relived the group's life from their formation through their #1 albums until their demise. All in all, for me at least, it was pretty sad. Through their reality show and their fantastic music, I have become pretty attached to Danity Kane and I'm still upset that they have disbanded. It seems like they could've kept it together, but I guess we don't really know the whole reason.

They'll always have a place in my heart (considering they are my #1 most played artist, according to my last.fm and the top two most played songs on my iTunes ("Damaged" and "Show Stopper")). I do hope they reunite in the future, but that seems unlikely.

I am definitely looking forward to what they individually have to offer, but I am afraid that it won't live up to their achievements as a group. We will definitely see.

In the meantime, let's take a moment of silence for my favorite girl group Danity Kane.

Wow... It's been a long time

Hey all,

Wow. It's been a long time since I've updated my blog. Sorry about that, ya'll. I've been so busy and I have finals this week so I won't be updating too much, but I did want to say that starting Friday, I'm going to try to update at least once a day. I can't promise anything, but that's my plan.

Another post to come in a couple minutes (about what? you'll have to wait and see), so stay tuned.

See you all then!

Oh Nicole, What Have You Done Now?

So, Nicole and her dolls (mainly Nicole) released their video for their awful cover of Slumdog Millionaire's "Jai Ho". As I said, this version of the Oscar-winning song is awful and unnecesary. I don't understand why the Pussycat Dolls would do ruin this song. Does Nicole not realize that she's pronouncing "Jai Ho" incorrectly even though A. R. Rahman says it right before her? Why would A. R. Rahman allow them to butcher his song?

That said, the video is pretty good. The Dolls do what they do best, dancing their asses off. The video overall is good. The song also does grow on you unfortunately, though it's mainly due to the original song's brilliance. Song: D-. Video: C+/B-. Original Song: A.

Anyways, here's the video.

It's Bad Boy!

Two Bad Boy singles leaked today from two artists on their sophomore albums.

The first is Day26's "Imma Put It On Her" featuring Yung Joc & Diddy. It's pretty catchy. It's definitely got that club knock that the boys were looking for. While, I'm not the biggest fan of the band (Danity Kane forever! lol), they stuff they're been releasing is pretty cool. I liked their original first single ("Stadium Music") better, but this is pretty good. Hopefully they'll get more airplay with this one. Their album Forever in a Day will be released on April 14.

Listen/Download Here courtesy of MusicIsTheHeartofOurSoul.com

The second is "Me & U" singer Cassie, with her new single "Must Be Love" featuring maybe-boyfriend Diddy (again). It's OK. Cassie isn't coming on as strong. "Me & U" was my jam and "Long Way 2 Go" was very good too. Then she released "Is It You?" off of Step Up 2 as a kind of single & I loved it. It was so good. But then she came with "Official Girl" and I wasn't so sure. I eventually grew to like it, but it took too long. "Must Be Love" is pretty good, better in fact than "Official Girl", but still, she needs to bring some better material to the table. Her album will be released sometime in spring 2009.

Btw, Diddy really needs to stop hoping on these songs. Get your own songs Diddy!!!

Britney Spears' New Video for "If You Seek Amy"

Hey everyone! Britney Spears' new video for "If You Seek Amy" has been released and it is AMAZING! Besides the song being great, the video is amazing. THe concept is cool and the dancing sequences are cool. This is right on par with everything she's been releasing. Keep up the good work Brit! Overall: A

Some New Music Videos

NEW MUSIC VIDEOS!

Se7en really pulls this one off. The video is really cool, especially compared to the other ones that have been released lately. It is interesting and the song is bumpin'. I love this song. And Lil' Kim is pretty good too. She doesn't seem to be as plastica as she has in the past. Overall: B/B+

This song is definitely growing on me. I never want to play it purposefully, but whenever it comes on I like it. It's love/not-love. The video is pretty cool. It's got that Dreamgirls/60s vibe. Somewhat creative, though not innovative. I respect LeToya and hope she comes out with some better stuff, though this is pretty good as it is. Overall: B-

I LOVE Keri Hilson! "Turnin' Me On" aside (what was she thinking?), she's put out some fantastic music. This girl can definitely sing. Anyways, "Make Love" is great and so is the video. Keri looks beautiful and the cinematography is great. Kanye is cool in this video too for what he is. The video is only a teaser, but still really great! Overall: B+/A-

There's one more video after the jump!

Pitbull - Calle Ocho

Pitbull just released the video for his next single "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)". It follows along with his previous single "Krazy" with his new dance style. It's pretty good, but being a Pitbull fan, I might be biased. The video is pretty much standard fare for Pitbull. It's him with some girls dancing in front of a green screen. Still pretty good though. Check it out! Song: B+/A-. Video: C+

Videos From This Past Week!

VIDEOS!!!

"Blame It" by Jamie Foxx feat. T-Pain

Question: Why are Jake Gyllenhall, Forest Whitaker, Ron Howard, and Smauel L Jackson in this video? They don't do anything and they are barely in it.

"Daydreamin'" by DJ Drama feat. Akon, Snoop Dogg, & T.I.

The video's OK, but the song's pretty good!

"Beautiful" by Akon feat. Colby O'Donis & Kardinal Offishall

2009 Oscars....already?

Yes, well one blog I visit has posted preliminary Oscar nomination predictions for the next Oscars. Note that these are very preliminary. Last year, he thought "Che" and "Revolutionary Road" would be serious contenders, so these should be taken with caution. There were also some movies I haven't even heard of, so again: a grain of salt.

That being said, it's an interesting read. Make sure to click on the link at the end of the article about charts. Here is Kris Tapley's opinion of the next Oscars on In Contention. Have fun!

Oscars!!!

So, I have to say I loved a lot of last night's Oscars. Hugh Jackman, I thought, was hilarious and talented last night, especially in the opening number. It was great!

Overall, I was ECSTATIC with the results. 8 WINS FOR SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!!! KATE WINSLET = BEST ACTRESS!!! Those were really the ones that I was pulling for. I certainly expected Sean Penn to win and I thought he was phenomenal in "Milk", but I was pulling for Richard Jenkins. Penelope Cruz was also a great choice for Suporting Actress and definitely expected.

Some might say this award season was boring. I mean, I predicted a lot of the wins last night, so maybe it was a little boring and predictable. The one semi-upset was "Departures" from Japan winning Best Foreign Language Film over Isreal's "Waltz with Bashir". I was a little disappointed about this, but seeing as I have only seen "Bashir" in that category, I can't complain too much. Plus, in the days before the Oscars, many bloggers were predicting that the more Oscar-friendly "Departures" would win.

YAY FOR SLUMDOG!

So anyways, here is the complete list of winners (Courtesy of getthebigpicture.net):

My New Discovery: Asher Roth

So, I know I'm late to this boat, but I have just discovered Asher Roth, a new rapper who is set to release his debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. He is a white, Jewish rapper from Pennsylvania, but don't let that color your opinions of him. Also, let's try to avoid Eminem comparisons. He made waves last summer when he released his Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama and Cannon, The Greenhouse Effect, which consists of Roth rapping over other beats. More recently, his debut single, "I Love College", has become very popular. It is already in the top ten Hip-Hop/Rap songs on iTunes. The single is fun, funny, and clever. It's kind of like chill rap. If that's not your cup of tea, still check it out, but also check out his mixtape because that's where he really demonstrates his flow and lyricism. He was also named one of XXL magazine's top freshman of 2009.

New Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Poster!

Finally, some posters for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! I (and I'm sure you) have been waiting for these posters for a long time. Since the movie was pushed back to July 17, 2009 they came even later than I had been hoping. The posters are really cool. Dumbledore and Harry each have their own posters of them looking off the poster at something probably ominous. There is also a third poster of Harry with Dumbledore reflected in his glasses. They're all definitely worth checking out even if you're not a particular Potter fan. Here they are (Thanks to The Leaky Cauldron):

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!!!

So I know I haven't posted in a while, but I have work.

So anyways, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE definitely seems poised to win Best Picture doesn't it, and I am thrilled. It was, in my opinion, the best movie of the year and it is definitely the best movie of the Best Pic nominees.

Just in case you didn't know, Slumdog won Best Ensemble at the Screen Actor's Guild, it won Best Picture at the Producer's Guild Awards, Boyle won Best Director at the Director's Guild Awards, and Beaufoy won Best Screenplay at the Screenwriter's Guild Awards.

Slumdog, for the win!!!

Milow - Ayo Technology

Hey, so I saw this guy playing this song acoustically a while ago, but I just found out he actually made a video for this last year. Milow is from Belgium and this song has actually reached number 1 there and in the Netherlands. Anyways, this is Milow performing a cover of 50 Cent's "Ayo Technology" and it is an amazing cover. The video is really cool. Definitely check it out! (The song and video are available on iTunes, btw).

THE OSCAR NOMINATIONS!!!

YAY!!! The Oscar nominations were finally anounced! There are definitely some surprises and possible snubs, so let me get to talking.

Best Picture: Firstly let me say, that I am in no way a big "Dark Knight" fan, so I will not be complaining about its non-presence in this category. Actually, I'm kind of happy that it wasn't, sorry. I feel like all of these movies were better (with the possible exception of "Curious Case of Benjamin Button", but I won't go there). Four of these nominees were completely expected ("Benjamin Button", "Frost/Nixon", "Milk", and "Slumdog Millionaire"), while "The Reader" kind of came out of left-field, though it was definitely a possibility. I am pretty excited that "The Reader" is getting some recognition. I loved it. Of course there were two movies on my Best Picture list that didn't make it on ("Revolutionary Road" and "Rachel Getting Married" instead of "CCoBB" and "F/N"), so I am a bit disappointed. Personally, I would've added "Revolutionary Road" before "The Reader", but I still love the Academy's choice.

Best Director is pretty much the same.

Best Actor: I also picked three in this category in my list (Penn, Rourke, and Jenkins (YAY)). I picked Michael Sheen for "Frost/Nixon" instead of Frank Langella because I thought his performance was equally as good, if not better, and because he hasn't gotten any recognition so far. Brad Pitt's performance his fine, but a lot of it is the CGI, so I just can't count that as one of the five best. Leonardo DiCaprio ("Revolutionary Road") was phenominal and completely deserved this nomination over Pitt. Overall, this was pretty much expected.

Best Actress: So, I picked 3 1/2 in this category (Hathaway, Jolie, Streep, and Winslet). I saw half because I picked Winslet for "Revolutionary Road" for this category and put her "The Reader" performance in Supporting. I LOVED her in "Rev Road" and think totally deserves to be nominated for that. She was also amazing in "The Reader", so I'm not really that upset, though now she only has one chance to win. I had picked Kristen Scott Thomas ("I've Loved You So Long") for the last nominee and feel she was snubbed, though I haven't seen "Frozen River", so I don't completely know.

Best Supporting Actress: I only picked one in this one (Adams). All the actress nominated (Cruz, Davis, Hensen, Tomei) were great in their roles, so I really don't have anything to complain about. I think that some of my picks (Zylberstein, Abbass, and DeWitt) are completely underrated and underlauded. My last pick was Winslet for "The Reader", which moved to Lead Actress.

Best Supporting Actor: I got 3 of these (Brolin, Ledger, and Shannon). Personally, I wasn't very impressed by Robert Downey, Jr., sorry. He was fine and all, but Oscar-nominated?!? Seriously? Hoffman is also a very good choice. He was just slightly off my list. I was really rooting for Dev Patel in "Slumdog Millionaire". I LOVED that movie!!! and Dev was awesome in it!

I'm also excited about Original Score and Original Song. "Slumdog Millionaire" for Best Score and two songs from the film, "Jai Ho" and "O Saya", were nominated for Best Song. Wall-E was of course nominated for Best Animated Feature against "Bolt" and "Kung Fu Panda". "Wall-E" was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay (strangely), against "Milk", "Frozen River", "Happy-Go-Lucky", and "In Bruges" (YAY!). Best Adapted Screenplay has the other four Best Picture nominees against "Doubt".

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" racked up the most nominations, 13, including the 5 I already mentioned plus: Original Score, Cinematography, Costume Design, Art Direction, Makeup (Well deserved), Film Editing, Visual Effects (Also well deserved), and Sound Mixing.

"Slumdog Millionaire" has the second most with 10, including the 6 I mentioned before plus: Film Editing (IT BETTER WIN!), Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing.

WHO I WANT TO WIN:
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Best Director: Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
Best Actress: Kate Winslet, The Reader
Best Actor: Richard Jenkins, The Visitor
