Frost/Nixon

So I'm a little late with this post, but I saw Frost/Nixon on Christmas and I was definitely impressed. Frank Langella and Michael Sheen were both fantastic in their respective roles of Nixon and Frost. Langella especially was amazing in the way he was able to bring sympathy onto Nixon, as he slowly was broken apart by Frost. He was devestated and the audience could tell.

I can absolutely see why this film is in the running for Best Picture at the Oscars and Golden Globes. It's political, cinematic, and entertaining. In terms of the Golden Globe nominees, Slumdog Millionaire is still, in my opinion, better and more deserving of the win. Seeing as I still haven't seen Revolutionary Road and the Read, I can't completely rank them, but I would say, with what I've seen:
Slumdog Millionaire
Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon

Frank Langella, as I've said, is phenominal in this movie, but I think that Sean Penn (Milk) is better than Langella and definitely better than Pitt. He deserves both the Golden Globe and SAG (Though I haven't seen the other movies yet, so don't take my word fully for that).

I think that Michael Sheen was definitely snubbed as his performance was almost as amazing as Langella, but is probably being outshined by the later. I also don't understand how Frost/Nixon was nominated for best Cast Ensemble at the SAG awards. While the cast was great, it wasn't as much an ensemble as Slumdog, Milk, Button, and Doubt or the non-nominees Rachel Getting Married and the Dark Knight.

More Globes and SAG Reactions!

To see my initial reactions, click here.

Well, I finally saw "Tropic Thunder" and "Burn After Reading"! Burn After Reading was an excellent comedy and Tropic Thunder was funny in its own right.

Reading was nominated for Best Picture (Comedy) and Frances McDormand was nominated for Best Actress (Comedy) at the Globes. Both of them were excellent, but seeing as I haven't seen the rest of the films nominated, I can't judge that much. The screenplay also deserves a nod in the Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars. In my opinion, Brad Pitt is being seriously underrated and should have been nominated for supporting actor, especially if Tom Cruise can get nominated.

Thunder was nominated twice in Best Supporting Actor at the Globes (Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise) and once in the same category at the SAG awards (Downey). I can definitely see Downey being nominated, as he was hilarious as "the dude playing a dude disguised as another dude". Tom Cruise on the other hand was funny, but nothing special. He definitely didn't deserve that over Brad Pitt and others. In terms of SAG, I'm still rooting for Patel in Slumdog.

There's just my two cents, so don't spend it.

New Justin Timberlake: "If I" featuring T.I.

So a new Justin Timberlake song, "If I", leaked last week and it features T.I. I can't say I'm on board with Justin's new funky style. It's similar to his other leaked song, "Magic", and I'm just not that excited. Justin is one of my favorite artists, but this just doesn't quite cut it. I definitely prefer T.I.'s single with Justin, "Dead and Gone". Now that is a hit. So, anyways, here is "If I":

Golden Globes & SAG Finally!

So, I was going to comment on Golden Globe nominations before, but I was in a finals coma, so I didn't have a chance. Anyways, I'll do it now combined with a Screen Actors Guild awards nominations post! Right now, I'll only do the movie categories. I'll do TV later. I'll combine commentary of the actor categories.

Golden Globes Best Pic (Drama)
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire
Comedy
Burn After Reading
Happy-Go-Lucky
In Bruges
Mamma Mia
Vicky Christina Barcelona

Now, I've only seen Benjamin Button and Slumdog so far, and I have to admit that I LOVED Slumdog and was disappointed by Button. Not to saw it wasn't good, because it was, but not the best. So Slumdog would be my pick for now, but once I see the rest that could change. Also, in terms of Oscar predicting, right now, The Reader and Revolutionary Road don't seem to have much of a chance. Snubbed: Milk

Golden Globe Best Actress (Drama)
Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie, Changeling
Meryl Streep, Doubt
Kristen Scott Thomas, I've Loved You So Long
Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road
Comedy
Rebecca Hall, Vicky Christina Barcelona
Sally Hawkins, Happy-Go-Lucky
Frances McDormand, Burn After Reading
Meryl Streep, Mamma Mia
Emma Thompson, Last Chance Harvey

SAG Best Actress
Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie, Changeling
Melissa Leo, Frozen River
Meryl Streep, Doubt
Kate Winslet, Revolutionary Road

Again, I haven't seen all of these movies. In fact, I've haven't seen any of the comedies. I've seen Rachel Getting Married, Changeling, and I've Loved You So Long. Of those three, Anne Hathaway delivered the best performance, though all were amazing. In terms of the Oscar, Streep and Winslet seem to be the front runners right now, though that could change. Many seem to think that Melissa Leo was snubbed at the Golden Globes and that Sally Hawkins was snubbed at the SAG awards, so I'll have to take their word for it. Also snubbed by SAG: Kristin Scott Thomas. Also snubbed by both: Cate Blanchett (Curious Case of Benjamin Button, though I don't agree).

Click after the jump for the rest!!

Golden Globes Best Actor (Drama)
Leonardo DiCaprio, Revolutionary Road
Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn, Milk
Brad Pitt, Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
Comedy
Javier Bardem, Vicky Christina Barcelona
Colin Farrell, In Bruges
James Franco, Pineapple Express
Brendan Gleeson, In Bruges
Dustin Hoffman, Last Chance Harvey

SAG Best Actor
Richard Jenkins, The Visitor
Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn, Milk
Brad Pitt, Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler

I've again only seen three of these movies: Button, Milk, and Pineapple Express. As for the SAG & GG Drama, I would pick Penn at this point. He was great in Milk. He also has a very good chance of winning. Pitt was very good also, but again I was disappointed. James Franco was fine in Pineapple Express, but award-worthy? I don't think so. The Oscar race seems to really be down to Penn, Rourke and maybe Langella. Snubbed by GG: Richard Jenkins. Snubbed by SAG: Leonardo DiCaprio. Snubbed by both: Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino)

Golden Globes Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams, Doubt
Penelope Cruz, Vicky Christina Barcelona
Viola Davis, Doubt
Marisa Tomei, The Wrestler
Kate Winslet, The Reader

SAG Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams, Doubt
Penelope Cruz, Vicky Christina Barcelona
Viola Davis, Doubt
Taraji P. Henson, Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Kate Winslet, The Reader

The only movie I've seen of these in Button and Henson is definitely good in it. At this point, Davis and Cruz seem to be in the lead for both wins and for the Oscar, while Kate Winslet definitely has a chance. Both awards snubbed Rosemarie Dewitt (Rachel Getting Married) and one that only I seem to be pulling for, Elsa Zylberstein (I've Loved You So Long). Dewitt has been getting recognition and she almost outshine Hathaway in Rachel Getting Married, while Zylberstein does the same to Kristin Scott Thomas in I've Loved You So Long with no recognition. I think that Dewitt definitely has a nomination chance at the Oscars. Also snubbed by SAG: Marissa Tomei (The Wrestler). Also snubbed by GG: Taraji P. Henson (Button)

Golden Globes Best Supporting Actor
Tom Cruise, Tropic Thunder
Robert Downey Jr., Tropic Thunder
Ralph Fiennes, The Duchess
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doubt
Heath Ledger, Dark Knight

SAG Best Supporting Actor
Josh Brolin, Milk
Robert Downey Jr., Tropic Thunder
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doubt
Heath Ledger, Dark Knight
Dev Patel, Slumdog Millionaire

So I've seen Slumdog, Milk, and Dark Knight. Complaint: Tom Cruise, seriously? I haven't seen the movie yet, but I can't believe he was that good. I'm reallyexcited that Patel got nominated for the SAG, because Slumdog can use the boost, and I really hope it translates to an Oscar nom. Though Ledger had the early lead, I do think he has to look out for Brolin (who was snubbed by the Globes, but did a phenominal job) and Hoffman (Doubt really succeeds in the acting categories). Snubbed by GG: Josh Brolin (Milk), James Franco (Milk), Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road), Dev Patel (Slumdog). Snubbed by SAG:
James Franco (Milk), Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road).

SAG Outstanding Cast Performance
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Doubt
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Slumdog Millionaire

This seems to be the SAG's version of Best Picture. I've seen three of these (Button, Milk, and Slumdog), and am definitely pulling for Slumdog. I think it has a chnce at winning, as it is an amazing ensemble. Button on the other hand wasn't that much of an ensemble and is somewhat out of place here. Frost/Nixon also seems to be more 2-character driven, than ensemble, so it is definitely a confusing choice. Milk and Doubt (w/ 4 acting nominations) both have good shots. Snubbed: Dark Knight, Rachel Getting Married.

Best Director for Golden Globes is the same as Best Picture (Drama), and I loved Danny Boyle's direction in Slumdog Millionaire, so I would pick him without a doubt so far. Best Screenplay is also a rehashing of drama except Doubt instead of Revolutionary Road (my pick being Simon Beaufoy for Slumdog of course.

Best Original Score
Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Changeling
Defiance
Slumdog Millionaire
Frost/Nixon

As would be expected, I LOVED A. R. Rahman's score for Slumdog Millionaire.

Best Song, I have only seen and hear the song from Cadillac Records so I would pick that. Foreign Language, I've only seen I've Loved You So Long (French), so I would pick that and for Best Animated Feature, I've only seen Wall-E, so it wins by default.

Again, I'll do TV later, but here are the links for the rest of the nominees if you curious:

Christina Aguilera - A Decade of Hits (Album Review)

My first album review! (and it's barely even an album, but oh well).

Christina Aguilera is releasing her greatest hits album, Keeps Gettin' Better - A Decade of Hits, on November 11. The album of course features the majority of Christina's singles, including three of her four number one singles ("Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants", and "Come On Over").

It also features her hits "Dirrty", "Beautiful", "Ain't No Other Man", and current single "Keeps Gettin' Better" among others.

Also, Christina has of course added some new material. Besides "Keeps Gettin' Better", she recorded one completely new song, "Dynamite". This song is in the same dance/pop style of her single, but doesn't have quite the same catch. It's a little bland and probably wasn't needed for inclusion.

Christina also rerecorded two previous hits: "Genie in a Bottle" and "Beautiful". The first one's rerecording, "Genie 2.0", was premiered at this year's VMA's and is definitely worth listening to (it's pretty catchy). "You Are What You Are (Beautiful)" is OK. It sounds ethereal and is interesting, but isn't great.

Christina certainly has had hits and this album demonstrates it. Although she left off some of my favorite songs ("Can't Hold Us Down", "Reflection", "Lady Marmalade", and "Genio Atrapado"), Aguilera has a great greatest hits album that is definitely worth picking up (although only available at Target).

Grade: B+

Hey all,

I am actually back this time and will be updating from now on.

Anyways, here is Paramore's new video for "Decode", the first single from the Twilight soundtrack. I'm not a big fan of Paramore, but this song is pretty good and the video features scenes from the movie that I'm pretty sure haven't been released yet. Give it a look!

Danity Kane, Rihanna, Gnarls Barkley & Bow Wow Videos

YAY! More videos!

First up, Danity Kane finally released the video for their second single, "Bad Girl" featuring Missy Elliott, six months after "Damaged" was released. This is definitely their most creative video, and I LOVE IT. But I do have to say that I think the video's missing a big dance number. I feel like at some point they just all should have broken it down and danced. Also, I'm a little sick of Dawn & Q.

Rihanna has released her new video earlier this week for "Disturbia" off of the ridiculous re-release of her album Good Girl Gone Bad. I have to say that I hated this song in the beginning, but it has definitely grown on me. Plus, this video is SICK! I think her best video yet.

More after the jump!!

Gnarls Barkley released their third video from their album The Odd Couple for the song "Who's Gonna Save My Soul Now?" Again, Gnarls Barkley has outdone themselves with this video. It is just amazing. I love how it isn't a performance video and it's just the story.

Finally, Bow Wow has released the first single from his upcoming album Pedigree called "Marco Polo" featured the tired Soulja Boy. I don't even want to comment on this ridiculousness. Seriously, Bow Wow?

Trailer Talk: HBP & Twilight

OMG EXCITING NEWS!:The teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is going to be released via satellite on Tuesday July 29!! It should be online soon after that. Finally, after months of speculating when it will be released and after that lame 15 second thing that I refused to post, it will arrive.

Secondly, a second, longer teaser trailer for the Twilight movie was released last week (sorry, I'm a little late posting it). Here it is:

P.S. I will posting my views on the Emmy nominations soon (sorry it's a week late). Click Here for for the rest!!

MORE MUSIC VIDEOS! (The good and the bad)

A lot of videos have come out in the past few days. some are good and others are not. Without out further procrastination:

First up, Ashanti's video for "Good Good". I'm still not sure how I feel about this song (is it fun or annoying?), but this video is HOT HOT HOT. I have to say that this is definitely one of the best videos of the year. It is creative and different than the rest of the videos out there. She's not dancing on a beach (Keyshia or Mariah anyone?) or in a club. The video fits the song so well. Here it is:

Secondly, Heroes actress Hayden Panettiere released a song and video for "Wake Up Call", funded by Candies. I have to say Hayden looks really hot, but the sond is not so much. It unfortunately brings back memories of Paris's "Stars Are Blind" (the faux reggae beat & the weak (sorry) vocals). Hayden isn't a bad singer, but this song may not be a right fit (although it can get stuck in your head). Here's the video (it's worth a look):

More after the jump!!

Diddy's ex-umbrella holder Fonzworth Bentley has teamed up with Kanye West and Andre 3000 for his first single "Everybody". Just watch it. It's priceless!

N.E.R.D. released their new video for their second sinlge "Spaz". I LOVE this song and the whole CD, but this video doesn't do the song justice. I was hoping for something a little more creative than a performance video. Check it out:

What happened to Pretty Ricky?? Everything they're putting out lately is crap, including this new video for "Knocking Boots 08". Just watch it (or really not):

Alicia Keys has released the latest video from her album As I Am for the song "Superwoman". The song and the video are hot! I can't really explain it, you have to watch it!!

Finally, Robin Thicke released the video for his new single "Magic". I have to say I didn't like the song at first, but it's growing on me. The video's pretty good.

I'm out!

Videos Galore!

There are a couple videos that came out today (or recently) that you all should see.

First, my new favorite Keri Hilson dropped her video for her debut single, "Energy"!

More videos after the jump!!

Next up is Gym Class Heroes' video for their buzz single, "Peace Sign/Index Down" featuring Busta Rhymes. The video for their official first single "Cookie Jar" should drop soon. (PS. Look for Tyga in the vid)

Lastly, this video was released a couple days ago, but I'll post it now. It is a collaboration between NERD, Santogold, and Julian Casablancas of the Strokes called "My Drive Thru" for Converse.

That's all for now!

106: What's the hell's up with Terrence?

On 106 & Park on Friday, Terrence decided to just bash Rocsi for her teleprompter reading skills, her breath, and her body ("why don't you have a body like Ciara").

That was all really ridiculous and seriously extremely unprofessional on Terrence's part. Rocsi walked off (which is also a little unprofessional), but seriously, Terrence was out of control. Then, HE messed up reading the e-mail address as well: he said, "freestylefriday@gmail.com", forgetting the "106". It was uncalled for & I think Rocsi had a right to walk off. What do you think? AND IT BEGINS!

The Breaking Dawn onslaught is beginning!

First, this week's Entertainment Weekly features a Twilight movie cover (seen above), as well as two articles. One about Stephenie Meyer and how the series' success has affected her and the other about the movie.

Secondly, today is officially 21 days until the book release, so Stephenie has started her 21 "Breaking Dawn Quotes of the Day". The first was just released (see below) on her myspace, but she does warn that the quotes are out of context, out of order, ans purposefully misleading, so take that into consideration.

More on Emmy Shortlists! (UPDATED!)

Hey, I just found this website that had a lot of the Emmy Shortlists (meaning the top 10 or 11 that will be narrowed down to 5).

I'll edit this post later with my opinions, but for now I just wanted to give you the link!!

UPDATED:
I already reviewed the Shortlists for Drama and Comedy series, but you can find the rest of my opinons after the jump!

Best Drama Actor: I have to admit that I don't watch the majority of the TV shows that are nominated in the Drama categories, so the only one in this category I would really be rooting for in Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy). MIA (Missing in action): Bill Paxton (Big Love) and Christopher Meloni (SVU) (who never gets nominated).

Best Drama Actress: I would have to root for either Patricia Arquette (Medium) or Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love). While I do also like Mariska Hargitay (SVU), I definitely don't think she is necessarily any better that Christopher Meloni. MIA: The other actresses from Big Love: Ginnifer Goodwin and especially Chole Sevigny (who is just as good if not better than Jeanne).

Best Supporting Drama Actor: I would vote for either Bruce Dern (Big Love), T.R. Knight (Grey's Anatomy), or Jake Weber (Medium). I really hope Jake gets nominated just because he never does, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be T.R. MIA: Donald Sutherland (Dirty Sexy Money), Masi Oka and Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes).

Best Supporting Drama Actress: My choices for 4 of the nominees would be Jill Clayburgh (Dirty Sexy Money), S. Epatha Merkerson (Law and Order), Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson (Grey's Anatomy). The fifth can be whoever. I definitely want Chandra Wilson to win because her character brings so much to the show and she is underappreciated as an actress. MIA: Michelle Trachtenberg (Gossip Girl), Hayden Panettiere (Heroes), Amanda Seyfried (Big Love), Sarah Ramirez (Grey's Anatomy), and Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy) (I'm kidding).

Best Comedy Actor: So the list isn't complete, but from what's there, I would definitely pick Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) for the win. Of the options Gold Derby gives for possible nominees, the only one I watch is Zach Braff (Scrubs), but I really don't think he'll be nominated.

Best Comedy Actress: Wow, there are 7 in this category that I would want to be nominated. (AHH!!!) Well, for the 5 nominated actresses I would pick Marcia Cross (Desperate Housewives), Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), and Eva Longoria Parker (Desperate Housewives). My next choice for nomination would be Christina Applegate (Samantha Who?) and then America Ferrera (Ugly Betty). I really couldn't decide between Eva and Christina. I love Eva, which is why I picked her ultimately. I would definitely pick Mary-Louise Parker to win this category. MIA: Teri Hatcher (the only missing Desperate Housewives).

Best Supporting Comedy Actor: Again, no shows I really watch in this group, except for 1. So, I would have to say that Justin Kirk (Weeds) should definitely win. MIA: Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies), Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), and Doug Savant (Desperate Housewives).

Best Supporting Comedy Actress: In this category, I think that the 5 of the nominees should be Kristin Chenoweth (Pushing Daisies), Judith Light (Ugly Betty), Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds), Jean Smart (Samantha Who?), and Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty). For me, it would be down between Kristin and Elizabeth, but I'll have to pick Elizabeth Perkins in the end. MIA: Dana Delany and Nicollette Sheridan (Desperate Housewives), Sarah Chalke (Scrubs), Becki Newton and Ashley Jensen (Ugly Betty), Swoosie Kurtz (Pushing Daisies), and Jennifer Esposito (Samantha Who?).

I'm not going to go into the Guests, but here are the direct links:

The Emmy Short Lists

The Emmy short lists for Best Drama and Comedy series for released. These lists will be shortened to 5 nominations each (& those lists will be release on July 17). For comedy I think that Pushing Daisies, Weeds, and Ugly Betty should make the nominees. The other two I don't really care about (they'll be two of these: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, Family Guy, Flight of the Concords, The Office, 30 Rock, and Two and a Half Men). I'm a little disappointed that Desperate Housewives, Samantha Who? and Scrubs weren't nominated.

The only one I really care about in the Drama short list is Grey's Anatomy. It'll have to go against Boston Legal, Damages, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, House, Lost, Mad Men, The Tudors, and The Wire. I'm again disappointed at the shafting of Heroes, Big Love, and Gossip Girl (lol, jk).

The full list of nominees will be released July 17. Click Here for for the rest!!

Michelle Williams' "We Break the Dawn" video not to be on BET

Michelle Williams (of Destiny's Child) posted this blog on her MySpace recently to explain why you won't be seeing her video for "Break the Dawn" on BET anytime soon:

A lot of you guys are wondering why it's not on BET!!! Well how can I say this without starting any drama........it may not be "urban" enough!!! Whatever the h@$ that means!!! (this is the political foolishness we artists go through on a daily basis)

I did host BET NOW and it will be airing soon!! So I think my video will be shown on that show.
In my opinion this is some bullish. Her video isn't "urban" enough? It's not UET, it's BET, but thats besides the point.

Hip-Hop gossip blog thatgrapejuice.net just posted this is relation to this info:
Reliable word has it that a new edit of the video for the Flo-Rida (Urban) remix is set to be shot in the coming weeks, so as to allow for placement on BET.

I have to say I definitely don't like the remix as much as the original.

Btw, here's the link to watch the video. Click Here for for the rest!!

"Disturbia" - Rihanna

Ok, so this song was leaked a while ago, but it was released to radio today so I decided to comment. What is this song? It is no way better than any songs that were on the original release of Good Girl Gone Bad. What happened to "Breaking Dishes", "Push Up On Me", "Rehab", and "Good Girl Gone Bad". All of these songs are better than "Disturbia". "Take a Bow" I could understand: it was at least catchy and it actually was pretty good. Chris Brown co-wrote this song and he didn't pass the writing test. The producer, Brian Seals, also didn't do such a good job.

Basically, this song is nothing special. They're only trying to get people to go out and re-buy the CD, now that is Reloaded. They were trying to recreate "Don't Stop the Music", but they failed. Sorry, Rihanna. I'm pulling for you, but this one didn't work.

Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded came out today June 17th and features new singles "Take a Bow", "If I Never See Your Face Again" (with Maroon 5), and "Disturbia". It also has previous singles "Umbrella", "Shut Up and Drive", "Hate That I Love You", and "Don't Stop the Music".

Future Summer Jams!

So summer is here, finally!! And that means picking the songs we are going to jam to all summer long. I'm here to help. My predictions for this year's Summer Sizzlers are:

"Best, Best" by Missy Elliott - This Danja-produced song is bangin'. Missy both sings and raps through this song and it is like nothing else on the radio now. The first single off Missy's next album Block Party, scheduled to be released September 9, is going to heat up summer 2008.

"Just Dance" by Lady GaGa feat. Colby O'Donis - This dance-mania track has been burning up the dance airways for a bit now, but this single is about to take off on the mainstream. Featuring Akon's newest hit-maker Colby O'Donis, "Just Dance" is guaranteed to make you move throughout the summer.

Check after the jump for more Summer Sizzlers!

"I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry - I know you all have been bumpin' this song for a while now, but this is definitely not going anywhere anytime soon. This pop/rock song by Katy Perry is topping charts all over the place, and she has become the new pop sensation. Her album, One of the Boys, comes out today June 17th.

"Moving Mountains" by Usher - Usher's 2nd single, "Moving Mountains", is an almost-epic ballad about Usher's usual broken relationships. "Moving Mountains" is already moving mountains on the charts, and its success is sure to carry over to the summer.

"Bad Girl" by Danity Kane feat. Missy Elliott - Assuming Diddy ever actually releases this song by girl power group Danity Kane, this second single off Welcome to the Dollhouse could blow up more than "Damaged". This dance jam is about to jump off.

Look out for more Summer Sizzlers to come!
